Estimation Game

EstimateV flashes a figure at you for a moment and asks how many, how full or how long. The exposure is deliberately too short to count, so the answer has to come from judgement.

How to play EstimateV

  1. A figure appears on screen for a brief moment, then disappears.
  2. Type your estimate.
  3. The true value is revealed along with how close you were.
  4. Six task types rotate: dot counts, how full a bar is, angles, relative lengths, mixed shapes and elapsed time.
  5. Keep going as the tasks change.

How scoring works

You are scored on how close your estimate is relative to the true value, not on being exact. Being out by ten on a count of five hundred is treated very differently from being out by ten on a count of twenty, which is why the score is proportional rather than absolute.

Three ways to score better

Common questions

How long is the figure on screen?

Only a moment — deliberately shorter than it takes to count. Judging is the intended method.

Do I need to be exact?

No. Scoring is proportional to how close you are relative to the true value, so a good estimate scores well without being precise.

What kinds of things am I estimating?

Six rotating tasks: how many dots, how full a bar is, the size of an angle, relative lengths, mixed shapes and elapsed time.

More challenges

EstimateV is one of 25 challenges in ChallengeV, part of Apps by V. It runs entirely in your browser, works offline once loaded, needs no signup, and keeps your scores on your own device rather than on a server. Everything here is for entertainment — it is not a test or an assessment of any kind.
