Reaction Time Test

ReactionV measures how quickly you respond to a visual cue, in milliseconds. It is the simplest challenge on ChallengeV and the one most people replay, because a good round comes down to a few hundredths of a second.

How to play ReactionV

  1. Tap the panel once to arm the round. The panel turns red and holds.
  2. Wait. The delay before the cue is random, so there is nothing to anticipate.
  3. The instant the panel turns green, tap it — or press the space bar on a desktop.
  4. The panel shows your time for that round in milliseconds.
  5. Five rounds make one run, and your fastest round becomes your score.

How scoring works

Your score is the fastest of your five rounds, measured from the moment the panel turns green to the moment you tap. Tapping before the green does not count against you — the round simply restarts, so there is no way to cheat the timer by guessing early. Each run is compared against your personal best, which is kept on your device.

Three ways to score better

Common questions

Why does my time get worse the harder I concentrate?

Straining tends to produce anticipation rather than reaction. Staying relaxed and letting the colour change trigger the tap is reliably faster than trying to force it.

Does my phone or browser affect the result?

Slightly, yes. Screen refresh rate and touch sampling add a few milliseconds. Compare your times on the same device rather than against someone on different hardware.

What happens if I tap too early?

Nothing is recorded. The round restarts with a new random delay, so an early tap costs you time but never points.

More challenges

ReactionV is one of 25 challenges in ChallengeV, part of Apps by V. It runs entirely in your browser, works offline once loaded, needs no signup, and keeps your scores on your own device rather than on a server. Everything here is for entertainment — it is not a test or an assessment of any kind.
