Spot the Change: Memory Game

SpotChangeV shows you a board of items, blanks the screen for an instant, and brings it back with exactly one thing different. The brief gap is what makes an otherwise obvious change so hard to see.

How to play SpotChangeV

  1. A board of items appears. Study it — you get a couple of seconds.
  2. The board blinks out, then returns.
  3. Exactly one thing has changed: something removed, added, moved, or swapped for a different item.
  4. Tap the cell that changed.
  5. Three lives. The board grows and the glance gets shorter as you climb.

How scoring works

Each correct find scores, with later rounds worth more as the board grows and the viewing time shrinks. Three wrong taps end the run. The difficulty does not come from the change being subtle — the changes are often large — but from the blank frame between the two boards, which prevents you from noticing motion.

Three ways to score better

Common questions

Why is this so much harder than it looks?

It exploits change blindness. Normally a change draws your eye because it moves; the blank frame between the two boards removes that cue, so the change has to be found by comparison instead.

What kind of change should I look for?

One of four: an item removed, an item added, an item moved to a different cell, or an item swapped for a different one.

How many lives do I get?

Three. The run ends on the third incorrect tap.
