Privacy Policy
How DigiPinV handles your location. Last updated 20 August 2026.
Who we are
DigiPinV is a free web app published by Apps by V at appsbyv.in. It helps you find, decode and share India DIGIPIN codes. It is an independent utility and is not an official India Post application, nor affiliated with any government body.
Your location
When you tap Use My Location, your browser asks your permission and then hands DigiPinV a latitude and longitude. That reading is used inside your browser to calculate a DIGIPIN and is discarded when you close or reload the page.
Specifically:
- We never transmit your coordinates to Apps by V or to anybody else. There is no API call in this app that carries a location.
- We keep no server-side location history. There is no server involved in the calculation at all — converting coordinates to a DIGIPIN is arithmetic that runs on your device.
- We do not ask for location permission when the page loads. It is requested only at the moment you tap a button that needs it, and refusing costs you nothing but that one feature.
- Your DIGIPIN codes, whether typed or calculated, are likewise never sent anywhere.
What is stored on your device
DigiPinV writes to your browser's local storage only when you deliberately tap Save Location. Each saved entry holds the label you typed, the DIGIPIN, the latitude and longitude, and the date you saved it.
This data stays in your browser on that one device. It is not uploaded, not synced between devices and not visible to us — there is no account and no cloud. You can delete any entry from within the app, and clearing your browser's site data for appsbyv.in removes all of it at once.
The app also installs a service worker, which caches its own program files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, icons and the two vendored libraries) so that it works offline. The service worker never caches or sees your locations.
The map
The map picker loads map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Requesting a map tile necessarily tells OpenStreetMap's servers which tile you asked for, which reveals the general area you are looking at, and your IP address, in the same way that loading any image from any website does. This is inherent to showing a map and applies to every online map.
Two things limit it: the map only loads when you scroll to it, and your DIGIPIN is never included in a tile request — tiles are addressed by zoom level and tile number, not by your precise position. If you would rather not touch OpenStreetMap at all, simply do not use the map section; every other feature works without it.
Advertising and cookies
DigiPinV shows advertisements through Google AdSense to cover hosting costs. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and may collect data such as your IP address and browsing activity for that purpose. Google's use of advertising cookies is described in Google's advertising policy.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors' use of cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
To be explicit about the boundary: your location and your saved DIGIPINs are not shared with advertisers, because they are never sent off your device in the first place. The advertising system sees the same thing it would see on any web page — that a browser loaded this page.
Fonts
The page loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, which involves a request to Google's servers carrying your IP address. No other third-party service is contacted.
Children
DigiPinV is a general-purpose utility and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect personal information at all.
Your rights
Rights such as access, correction, export and erasure normally apply to data a company holds about you. We hold none: there is no account, no profile and no record of your visit beyond ordinary web server logs and the advertising described above. The data DigiPinV creates lives on your device and is entirely under your control — you can view it in the app, rename it, delete individual entries, or clear all of it through your browser's settings.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will appear on this page with a new date at the top. Material changes to how data is handled will be reflected here before they take effect.
