Make a QR code, or read one, without anything leaving your phone
QRwala builds QR codes for the six things people actually need day to day — a link, a UPI payment, a WiFi network, a phone number, an SMS and an email address — and it reads any QR code with your camera. The code is drawn in your own browser, so the UPI ID you type, the WiFi password you share or the link you encode never travels to a server. There is no sign-up and no limit on how many you make.
What you can put in a QR code
Link or text
Any web address, or plain text. Useful on a shop board, a visiting card, a menu or a packing slip.
UPI payment
Enter your UPI ID and payee name, and optionally a fixed amount. It writes a standard upi://pay link in rupees, which UPI apps recognise when scanned.
WiFi network
Network name and password, as a WPA/WPA2 code. A guest points their camera at it and joins without you reading the password out.
Phone, SMS and email
A phone code opens the dialler with the number filled in; SMS can carry a ready-written message; email opens a fresh mail to that address.
Reading a QR code
Switch to the Scan tab and tap Start camera. The picture is decoded frame by frame inside the browser — no photo is taken, saved or sent anywhere — and once it reads something you can open the link or copy the text. Your browser will ask for camera permission the first time, which is normal, and it will only work on a secure (https) page.
Questions people ask
Will the UPI code work with GPay, PhonePe or Paytm?
It writes the standard UPI link that Indian payment apps read, with the currency set to rupees. Before you print it or stick it on the counter, scan it yourself and send one rupee — that confirms the ID is typed correctly and the money reaches the right account. This is a personal UPI code built from the ID you enter; it is not a merchant QR issued by a bank or payment gateway, so it does not carry a merchant ID or settle into a current account on its own.
Is it safe to make a QR of my WiFi password?
The password never leaves your device — the code is drawn on the phone itself. But remember what the code is: anyone who can point a camera at it can join that network. Treat a printed WiFi QR the way you would treat the password written on a board, and put it where only guests you want on the network can see it.
Can I download the code, and in what format?
Yes — Download saves it as a PNG image, which is what you want for printing or for sending on WhatsApp. Share hands it to your phone's normal share sheet if you would rather send it straight on.
Does the scanner keep a record of what I scan?
No. Nothing you scan is stored, logged or uploaded. Close the tab and there is no history left behind.
Do these QR codes expire?
No. They are static codes — the information is inside the pattern itself, not on a server that could go down or start charging. That also means nothing updates by itself: if you change your UPI ID or your WiFi password, the old code stops being useful and you simply make a new one.
Does it work without internet?
Yes, after the first visit. Making codes and scanning them both run on the device, so a weak signal does not stop you.
