Last updated 2 November 2026 (version 2.1, renamed Rooh Se)
Rooh Se (formerly Dil Ki Baat) exists so people can say things they cannot say anywhere else. This page explains, without exaggeration, what happens to what you write.
What is stored, and where
Your conversations, journal entries, memory notes, your optional details (name, gender, age group) and your companion settings are stored in your browser on your own device (IndexedDB, or local storage if that is unavailable). There is no account and no login, and we have no copy. Small settings such as the theme, voice speed and a random device ID are kept in local storage.
If you clear your browser data, uninstall the app or change phones, this data is gone unless you exported it, and nobody, including us, can bring it back.
Turning off saved history. In Settings you can switch off "Save conversations on this device". New conversations are then kept only in the open page and disappear when you close or reload it. They are still sent to write replies, as described below.
Personal and intimate conversations
You can talk about relationships, intimacy, sexuality and sexual health here. These conversations are handled exactly like every other conversation: stored on your device, sent the same way to write a reply, never stored or logged by our server. If you choose the "Personal and intimate talk" or "Secrets and confessions" topic, the app titles the conversation "Private conversation" and hides its preview in the history list, so a glance at your screen does not reveal it. The topic is never shown in notifications or in the browser tab title. A topic label is not encryption: for real protection on a shared device, use a lock or passphrase encryption.
What is sent when you write a message
To write a reply, the app sends the following over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection to our server at appsbyv.in: your message; up to 20 recent messages from the same conversation; your companion and language choices; your optional details; the mood you picked today, if any; and, only if you turned Memory on, the memory notes you saved. Other conversations and your journal are not sent.
Our server builds the instructions for the AI, passes the request to Google's Gemini API, and returns the reply. Our server does not save, log or read the text of your messages.
Google processes the request to generate the reply. Under Google's paid Gemini API terms, this content is not used to train its models, but Google may keep requests for a limited period to detect abuse and comply with law, as described in its own terms. We cannot control or shorten that retention. Because your messages must be processed by the AI, Rooh Se is not end-to-end encrypted.
Your journal
Journal entries are never sent anywhere automatically. If you choose "Reflect" on an entry, the app first asks for your permission, and then sends only that entry's text, as a chat message, in the way described above.
Memory
Memory is off until you switch it on. Nothing is saved to memory automatically; you add, edit and delete every note yourself. When Memory is on, your notes are included with your messages so the companion can keep them in mind. You can turn it off or clear it at any time in Settings.
Voice
Voice is optional and off until you use it. Voice typing uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. In Chrome and Edge, your speech is sent to Google or Microsoft to be converted into text, under their own privacy terms; Safari may use Apple's service. The app asks before turning this on. Rooh Se never records, uploads or keeps audio; only the resulting text appears in the message box for you to edit. Reading replies aloud uses voices on your device.
The only things our server counts
To keep the service free, everyone gets 30 messages a day. To enforce that, the server keeps a daily counter linked to a scrambled (hashed) form of your random device ID and of your internet address, plus scrambled request IDs so a retried request is never counted twice. These counters contain no message text and are deleted automatically after three days. A request that fails is not counted.
PIN screen and passphrase encryption
PIN screen. A 4-digit PIN stops someone who picks up your phone from casually opening your chats. It is stored only as a salted one-way hash. It is not encryption: someone with technical skills and access to your device could still read browser storage.
Passphrase encryption. If you turn it on, everything Rooh Se saves about you on the device is encrypted with AES-256-GCM, using a key derived from your passphrase (PBKDF2-SHA-256, 600,000 rounds, random salt). The key is never stored; it exists only in memory while the app is unlocked, and the app locks itself after a period you choose. Old unencrypted copies are removed when encryption is switched on. If you forget your passphrase, your saved data cannot be recovered by anyone. Encryption protects what is stored on your device; it does not change what is sent to write replies.
Deleting and exporting
In the app you can delete one conversation, several, or all; delete journal entries and memory notes; or erase everything on the device. Deletion is immediate and permanent. Text exports and plain backups (.txt or .json) are ordinary, unencrypted files; keep them somewhere private.
Encrypted backups. You can instead save a backup protected with a passphrase you choose (AES-256-GCM, key derived with PBKDF2-SHA-256, 600,000 rounds). The file can only be opened with that passphrase; if you forget it, nobody can open it. Restoring a backup adds its conversations, notes and journal entries to this device and never deletes or overwrites what is already here. Backups never leave your device unless you move the file yourself.
The lock button. Once you have set a PIN or passphrase, the lock button at the top of every chat locks the app instantly.
Advertising and analytics
The public website shows ads served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies to show and measure ads. Ads never receive your messages, topics, journal or memory. Rooh Se does not use any analytics or tracking of its own, never logs chat text, and keeps no crash reports containing conversations.
Safety
If a message suggests someone may be in immediate danger, facing abuse, or being blackmailed or exposed with private images, the app shows free helplines (Tele-MANAS 14416, Tele-MANAS toll-free 1-800-891-4416, emergency 112, Women Helpline 181, Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 and cybercrime.gov.in). This check runs on your device and on the server only to shape the reply. Nothing is reported to anyone. Help lines are always available, whether or not you have messages left.
Google's Gemini AI has its own safety system. Very occasionally it declines to answer a message. When that happens the app tells you honestly, the message is not counted, and we do not try to get around it.
Age
Rooh Se is meant only for people aged 18 and over.
