Typing Speed Test (WPM)
TypingRaceV measures your typing speed in words per minute over a 15, 30 or 60 second run. It uses the standard measure — correct characters divided by five — so the number is comparable with other typing tests.
How to play TypingRaceV
- Choose a duration: 15, 30 or 60 seconds.
- Start typing the text shown. The clock starts on your first keystroke, not before.
- Correct characters turn green and mistakes turn red. You can carry on past a mistake.
- Keep going until the clock runs out.
- Your WPM and accuracy are shown at the end, and each duration keeps its own best.
How scoring works
Words per minute is calculated from correct characters only, divided by five and scaled to a minute — the standard definition of a word in typing tests. Incorrect characters are excluded rather than deducted, which means hammering the keyboard inaccurately produces a low score rather than a fast one. Accuracy is reported alongside so you can see the trade you are making.
Three ways to score better
- Aim for a steady rhythm rather than bursts. WPM rewards consistency because errors do not count toward the total.
- Do not stop to fix a mistake unless it is your very last character — the time spent correcting costs more than the character is worth.
- Start with the 15 second run to warm up, then set your record on 30 or 60.
Common questions
Why is a "word" five characters?
It is the standard convention in typing measurement, chosen so that results are comparable across different texts regardless of how long the actual words are.
Will my phone autocorrect help or hurt me?
Neither — autocorrect and autocapitalise are switched off on this page, so your phone cannot type for you and cannot change what you typed.
Do mistakes reduce my WPM?
Not directly. Incorrect characters simply do not count toward the total, so mistakes cost you the time you spent making them.
