Set up medicine reminders for a parent or elder

A calm, reliable routine so a daily dose is never missed — and refills never run out at the wrong moment.

Caring for an elderly parent often means keeping track of several medicines, each at its own time — one before breakfast, two after dinner, another only on alternate days. Miss one and it matters; double one and it matters more. A little bit of setup turns this daily worry into an automatic routine that anyone in the family can follow.

Start with a clear medicine list

Before setting reminders, write down every medicine clearly. For each one note:

Keep this list exactly as the doctor prescribed. If anything is unclear, confirm with the doctor or pharmacist — never guess a dose.

Build a routine around meals

Elders remember timings best when they’re tied to daily anchors — breakfast, lunch, evening tea, dinner, bedtime — rather than abstract clock times. Group the medicines into these slots. A pill organiser box with day/time compartments, filled once a week, pairs perfectly with phone reminders as a visual backup.

Set reminders that actually get noticed: loud enough to hear, and repeated if not acknowledged. The best reminder also says what to take — “2 tablets after dinner” — not just “medicine time”.

Set it up in the app

  1. Add each medicine with its dose and timing.
  2. Choose reminder times — tied to meals where possible.
  3. Mark doses taken each time, so you can see what’s been taken and what’s pending.
  4. Set a refill alert based on how many days of stock are left.
  5. Share the schedule with family so everyone caring for the elder is in sync.

Never run out: refill planning

Running out of a regular medicine on a Sunday is stressful. Set a refill alert for a few days before the strip finishes, so there’s always time to buy more. For long-term medicines, buying a month’s stock at once saves repeat trips.

Make it easy for the elder

Important: MediTime is a reminder tool, not medical advice. Always follow your doctor’s and pharmacist’s instructions for what to take and when. See our Terms of Use.
