Why "nothing is uploaded" matters here

A compressed holiday snap is not sensitive. A passport photograph, a signature, a scanned marksheet or a photo of an ID card is. Free online converters routinely accept those files onto their servers, and their privacy policies are often vague about how long the file is kept or who can reach it. Because these tools run entirely in the browser, the question does not arise: close the tab and there is nothing left on any server, because nothing ever reached one. It also means the tools keep working on a train with no signal.

Questions people ask

How do I get a photo to exactly 50 KB?

Open the compressor, choose 50 KB as the target and let it work down to it. Compression trades detail for size, so a very large photo squeezed hard will soften — if the result looks poor, resize the dimensions down first and then compress, which usually gives a much better picture at the same file size.

Will the quality drop?

Some, and that is unavoidable — a smaller file holds less information. JPG compression is lossy by design. What you can control is where the loss goes: cropping away background and reducing pixel dimensions costs you less visible quality than pushing the compression slider alone.

Is my photo uploaded to a server?

No. Every one of these tools runs in your browser using your device's own processor. There is no upload step, no account and no copy of your file at our end.

Which format should I choose?

JPG for photographs and for anything a government portal accepts, since it is the safest bet. PNG when you need a sharp-edged image or transparency, such as a signature. WebP makes noticeably smaller files for the web, but do not use it for an official upload unless the form explicitly says it is accepted.

Can I use it on a computer?

Yes, in any modern browser. On a phone you can add it to the home screen and it opens like an installed app, offline included.
